The dress often sets the tone for the rest of the wedding. It’s an opportunity for brides to express their unique style as they look forward to having all eyes on them. For most brides the dress is one of the most important elements of the wedding but, how do you find your dream dress? No bride wants to go into 30 different stores and try on 10 dresses to still be confused about what they want. When purchasing a wedding dress, remember some fabrics aren’t vegan, always do your research!

Before we even look into the actual dresses, it would be beneficial to set a realistic budget for your dress. Your budget should also include taxes, alterations, and shipping (if necessary).

Not everyone has their dream budget when looking at wedding dresses and thats okay. Many thrift shops have lovely wedding gowns that are a lot lighter on the wallet and are more economical than buying a brand new dress for just one day. You can also find pre-loved accessories that look as good as new and can be your something “used” for your big day.

GET CREATIVE

Being creative is an incredible opportunity to leave everyone in awe on your special day. If possible, purchase a few dresses from your local thrift store. Using a pattern from your favorite dress or a pre-loved pattern, pick your favorite parts from the dresses and make your own dream dress. If you aren’t the most handy with a sewing machine, this may be an awesome way to get your mother/grandmother more involved. If you’re lucky enough to be able to wear or even use parts of your mother/grandmothers wedding dress, it can add a special touch to one of the most significant dresses you will wear.

BRIDAL STORE TIPS

If your budget is a little more flexible and you’re able to go into a bridal store to try on some dresses, here are some tips:

This might be a bit odd, but search the internet for online wedding dress shops to view various dress styles. You’ll get to see which styles you like and don’t like. Try to find models with a similar body type to get an idea of how it can possibly look on you.

Once you have a few styles you like, take pictures as well as the name and designer of the dress. Now here comes the exciting part, it’s now time to go to your local bridal shop. If possible, bring two people that you trust their judgement and who know you well enough to be your second eyes. As much as it is great to have styles in mind, try to keep an open mind on what you think will look good on your body.

Next, choose two dresses you don’t think you’ll like and try them on. You may surprise yourself and end up wearing one on your special day.

TIPS WHEN TRYING ON YOUR DRESS.

  • Ask questions!
  • Voice any concerns you may have.
  • Don’t worry about the dress size too much. Depending on the cut and fit of the dress, they can run up to three sizes bigger then your average size.
  • Bring your camera and take pictures with you in each dress, if the bridal shop allows it of course.
  • Remember accessories, veil, necklace, headpiece, to add an extra touch to the dress.
  • If you don’t love it, don’t buy it.

The journey to finding your dream dress may not be over in an instant but it will happen. Be patient and don’t settle and when you find it, it will be perfect and you will look incredible.
